Canadian Students May Receive Tax Credits for OUM Tuition

Oceania University of Medicine is pleased to announce that it has received approval from the Canada Revenue Agency that OUM students living in Canada may claim a tax credit for tuition fees, according to a letter received by the Samoan Prime Minister.

In June, Prime Minister Tuilaepa Fatialofa Lupesoli’ai Sailele Malielegaoi wrote the Canada Revenue Agency to request recognition for OUM as an approved educational institution for the purpose of its Canadian students to receive the tax credit.

“This is great news for our Canadian students,” says Taffy Gould, Interim Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the OUM Council. “We are grateful to the Prime Minister to act on our behalf.”

The Canada Revenue Agency recognizes accredited universities outside of Canada so that its taxpayers may claim a credit for tuition fees. OUM received accreditation from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities in late 2010.
