Search Engines1. Google is a very popular search engine for locating web based information. 2. Google Scholar You may not know about its companion site, however. Google Scholar indexes the hidden parts of the Internet, such as databases and indexes of journal articles. The identical search in both these tools will have very different results. Note: Many of the articles retrieved by Google Scholar will require payment before you can access their full text. 3. Highwire Press is another tool much like Google Scholar, with a reasonable proportion of the articles freely accessible. It has over 15 million articles from over 4,500 PubMed journals, including nearly a million free full text articles from over 860 HighWire-hosted journals. 4. MedHunt is a specialist full-text search engine developed by Health
on the Net (HON) which focuses on health/medical web sites. The layout
of the search screen makes it easy to limit searches by geographic region
or top level domain type.
