Computers and Textbooks

While a laptop or notebook computer is not a requirement for studying in Samoa, students have found it helpful to have one. Computers should be equipped with Windows XP or higher operating system and an up-to-date anti-virus program. The university provides access to printers with a per-page charge to cover paper and toner costs. Because these office products are imported, they are much more expensive in Samoa than in other countries. Free access to OUM's local network (intranet) is provided to students and is an important communication portal between faculty and students. Access to the internet is regulated and inappropriate use is prohibited. Printing from the internet sources may also be assigned a small charge. Most course material and instruction will be available through OUM's local intranet. OUM's IT and Communications System Policy states that users may not download video or music files or use internet telephone, audio/video streaming, or conduct other high bandwidth activities. For personal use of the internet, students are able to purchase a pay-per-use internet card from the administrative office.

Limited copies of all core textbooks are available for reference in the campus library. Though not essential, students can purchase their own copy of core textbooks online or through most medical bookstores.
